Moments later, Dade held her close after collapsing on the chair. His skin was damp beneath her cheek. Rhys had left them to answer the phone.

“Are you okay, Jori?”

His voice was a gentle rumble. “Yes.” She snuggled against him enjoying the afterglow.

“Really, Jori are you okay with Rhys taking charge of you?”

She had never fancied herself a submissive, and she didn’t like being disciplined. On the other hand, there were aspects of S&M she did enjoy and a pleasure spanking was one of them along with being cuffed.

“Can you submit to us both? Rhys will want it out of bed as well, and so do I.”

“You were different than usual,” she admitted. “I wondered if that was because of him.” She looked up at him. Deep inside she knew it was.

“I never wanted to scare you with my needs,” he confessed.

Jori shifted on his lap, straddling him. “I hate that you felt you couldn’t trust me with who you really are,” she said softly. She hated that he needed Rhys to get off so well. She looked down at his broad chest, not wanting him to see the hurt she knew had to be in her as it stabbed through her. “I won’t ask if you trust Rhys because it’s clear you two have something you and I don’t.” They had more passion, and they shared a stronger connection.

She lifted her head aching from that knowledge even as she craved what the two men had together.

“You don’t want to be with us,” he said rather than asked.

There was disappointment in his voice that cut. She didn’t want to hurt him because it caused her pain, too. He was hers. Dade was already a part of her that she didn’t know how to cut out.

“I understand.” He kissed her forehead and started to get up.

“Dade?” She put a hand on his chest to stop him.

“Yes?” There was a calm to his toneless voice.

“Do you even care about me, or am I just an alibi to use to see Rhys without your job being threatened?” No matter what new rules or laws those in charge adopted for their town, they were still men who believed a sheriff should be all man. A gay one would never keep his job or regain it once it was taken from him.

“You wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have feelings for you, Jori, because I wouldn’t trust you with my secret.” Dade tightened his hold on her hips and stood up. He set her on her feet. “We should get cleaned up and get back to work.”

“I hate to cut this short,” Rhys came back into the room. “But my brother wants me at the orchard.”

“That’s okay,” Dade said blandly. “We need to get back to work, too. Jori, you can have the shower first.”

“Jori,” Rhys said softly. “Are you good? You look on the verge of tears.”

She waved off his concern. “I’m fine.”

Rhys pulled her into his arms hugging her tight. She wanted to push him away, to hate him.
